Downers Grove is a beautiful suburban town with beautiful large family homes and a picturesque downtown area. If it looks like something you’ve seen in the movies, it because you probably have. Downer’s Grove has been frequently been used to portray the perfect suburban town in several Hollywood flicks. But Downer’s grove is more than just a pretty face. There are many things about Downer’s Grove that make it an appealing place to live.
Downers Grove is the perfect family town, with year-round activities enjoyable for the whole family. Every year in June the village hosts the Pierce Downers Heritage festival, which was voted the #1 festival in the Midwest. There is also an ice sculpture festival every February.
Downers Grove is also home to the famous Tivoli theatre, which is was the first Classic Cinemas Theater in America. It was one of the first theatres to show movies with sound. The theatre pre-dates Classic Cinemas by 50 years, having opened on Christmas Day 1928. It is not only a landmark, but a functioning theatre as well.
There has been plenty of new development in the town due to the excessive amount of teardowns in the last several years. Many of the small single family homes that were built in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s are being torn down and replaced with larger, more expensive homes. The teardowns have been resulting in flooding, because the new construction takes up more than the old houses and there is less land per lot.
